After being underwater for several months this spring, Blue Spring Heritage Center is open again.

According to Carma Lewis, manager of Blue Spring, there is still some damage on one walkway, so it is only partially handicapped accessible, but visitors can now get to the spring.

“It’s out of the flood water, cleaned up, and you can sit on the bridge again, with your feet in the water,” Lewis added.

The soil still needs to aerated and some of the irrigation system repaired, so there are not a lot of flowers, but it is still beautiful,” she said.

Lewis said the big trout are still there and people can feed them. The bluff shelter is accessible, and the center and gift store are open and fully functional

Blue Spring Heritage Center is open daily 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and tickets have been discounted to $7.25 for adults, $4 for kids 10-17, and those 9 and under get in free.

(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR)  – Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge will soon open a new habitat specifically built for leopards. The grand opening will be July 17 a 11 a.m.

The non-profit organization raised over $40,000 in donations for materials for the project.  To save money, staff members handled the construction.

The new habitat is more extensive than any others at the refuge. Since it is intended specifically for leopards, it includes a heated and cooled building. The leopards’ new abode will receive a few finishing touches this week in preparation for the July 17 opening.

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge rescues abused, neglected or otherwise endangered lions, tigers, leopards, and other large animals and places them in natural habitats as soon as possible. It is the world’s largest refuge for big cats, currently sheltering over 100.

General admission fees apply to attend the habitat opening: $15 for adults; $10 for seniors, veterans and children 12 and under; free for ages 3 and under. For more information call the refuge at 479-253-5841.

(EUREKA SPRINGS, AR) – Return visitors to Eureka Springs notice it right away. First-timers do, too. Sitting high on a perch in the heart of the historic district and weighing in at over 500 pounds, it is hard to ignore.

Eureka Springs newest “attraction” is a giant Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall, presumably waiting to fall. Don’t tell that to the Harrimans, though. The couple, who bought and renovated the Queen Deer place near Basin Spring Park, have added the quirky landmark to the house’s exterior.

“Humpty” somehow magnifies the eclectic scene present seemingly everywhere in this getaway town. Passers-by can’t help but stop and stare. Some even talk to the ¼-ton sculpted fairy tale character. “Hey Humpty,” one tourist was heard to say, “It looks like you could use a little exercise.”

“It makes people stop, smile and laugh,” according to city publicist Ken Rundel. “And putting people in a good mood is what this city is all about.”

There is no charge to view the new “attraction.” It is located on Spring Street near its intersection with Main Street.
